Description
Brought together by chance, Englishman Colin Bell and Canadian Doug Redmond flew as members of the RAF’s 608 Squadron, part of Bomber Command’s Light Night Striking Force. In their role as Pathfinders, the two men flew their Mosquito through the angry skies over Germany as they defied the odds and completed 50 operations.
Along the way, they shared moments of terror, sadness and humour while building a bond of trust in each other’s abilities to do their jobs, with a little bit of luck thrown in for good measure.
Beautifully written by Doug Redmond’s son – Ian Redmond

Fascinating story of a Mosquito pathfinder crew and their 50 missions over Germany in 1944-44. Told by the son of one of the crew, the mission timeline is interspersed with a brief update on the progress of the War. This helps to put the raids and targets into context.
The closeness and utter trust that the two crew had in each other while flying for hours over enemy territory is obvious. Their close friendship and humanity comes through in the midst of the stress of flying, and also in the stories of their down time.
The description of Christmas Day 1944 at RAF Downham Market was one that will stick with me. A brief respite from the horrors of war. I could almost imagine being there.
Another important book that conveys the recollections of the brave men and women who put their lives on the line to defeat the Nazis. We will remember them.
