Thanks to the incredible support from donors and sponsors, we now have all the component parts and timber supplies of Plywood sheeting, Spruce and Balsa ready to begin the construction of the first De Havilland Mosquito fuselage in the UK for nearly 75 years!

As you can see from the wartime images, given the urgency of manufacturing, it took a huge number of people (men and women) across a wide range of cottage industries to feed the production lines to deliver aircraft to the front-line squadrons as quickly as possible.

Luckily, we do not need to work at that pace, nor do we have the savings of scale, but we do need to enlist the help of 4 quality aircraft engineers to bolster the Retrotec workforce for a period of 4 months.

This is the time it will take to build the half fuselage shells and prepare the support jigs to continue the internal fit-out. At this stage, we will be able to see the ‘cigar-shaped’ Mosquito profile for the first time – a wonderful landmark moment in the project!

Our 4 Engineers funding appeal is based on a nominal hourly cost of £20 to help fund these engineers – excellent value, given the skill set and work involved and we are looking for the public to ‘sponsor’ a man-hour at a budget that suits them.

Support an engineer for as little or as much as you desire and can sensibly afford, and when your contribution is combined with others, it will support their work for either one month, two months, three months or the full four months the process will take.

Follow our weekly newsletters that will keep you updated on our appeal.
