A superbly detailed diecast metal model of a De Havilland Mosquito in 1\/72 scale. The aircraft depicted is an FB-VI ‘Black Rufe’ from 418 Sqn RCAF, RAF Holmsley South in April 1944.\u00a0 This was the personal aircraft of Sqn Ldr Robert Allen Kipp, DSO, DFC & Flt Lt Peter Huletsky. Sqn Ldr Kipp was a decorated ace with 9.5 kills and several probables. In April 1944 he claimed 2 x FW190 in an intruder sweep over Germany with 418 Sqn.<\/p>\n
The FB Mk VI variant was powered by two Rolls-Royce Merlin 21 or 23 liquid-cooled V12 engines, each producing around 1,460 horsepower. The powerful engines enabled the Mosquito to reach a top speed of over 380 mph (610 km\/h).<\/p>\n
The armament varied depending on the mission. It typically carried four 20mm Hispano cannons in the nose and four .303 inch Browning machine guns in the wings. It could also carry various bombs, rockets, or torpedoes under its wings or in an internal bomb bay.<\/p>\n
